Memorable (Birth) day

As most of you know I am born on the thirteenth of September. This year I had my 73rd birthday coming up and I decided to celebrate by having an undisturbed holiday with my life partner Bhagirathi.

As luck would have it I forgot to carry my smartphone which was kept for charging while going. It was really a blessing in disguise since I was cut off from the world without Whatsapp and the web access and my prayer for an undisturbed holiday was answered. This forgetfulness also ensured that I will not lose my smartphone while travelling unlike the last time we went to Bhandardara.

Being a Sterling holiday resorts member I planned well in advance and booked a three day stay at Sterling's Emerald Bay Resort in Karwar.I had booked a night train from Panvel starting at 21.00 hours and we reached the next morning at 1030 am.
                          Sterling Karwar

After a short Autorickshaw drive of about half an hour we reached the resort at around 1130. The check-in time was 12 noon. we were welcomed with a refreshing drink of Kokum(The local popular drink). We were allotted and shown our room on the third floor.

Karwar with its gorgeous scenic beauty and a subtle sparkle of religion and history is a beautiful tourist destination.

The pristine beaches glimmering along the Arabian sea coastline, the imposing mountains , and the rich flora and fauna make it a photographer's delight. It is a place where you can witness the beautiful clash of Konkani, Kannada and Marathi cultures and escape from the hustle and bustle of cities. The place is home to various attractions in the form of beaches, temples and waterfalls. It is also famous for historic monuments and structures like the Sadashivgad Hill Fort which encompasses a temple.
The main places of attraction are The Rabindranath Tagore Beach, The Devbaugh beach, The Sadashivgarh Fort and the Durgamata Mandir, There is anisland nearby by the name of Kurumgad, It is accessible by a delightful boat ride arranged by the resort staff, To visit other places we used a local auto guy who was at our cal and helped us travel , It was easier since we there only two of us. The local market is supposed to be good for shopping Muslin cloth which is produced in these parts but we did not have any intentions of doing any shopping and hence we skipped the shopping and visit to the city market.

Day 1

We reached and had a refreshing bath. After a sumptuous lunch at the Palmgrove restaurant in house we rested the afternoon hours, In the evening we just explored the surroundings by foot. We had an early dinner at the restaurant and retired early.

Day 2

The resort staff had arranged the visit to the Kurumgad island. we were accompanied by another charming young couple who were from Indore and had an adorable two year old kid with them. We had a good breakfast and were led to the jetty by the resort staff. We were handed over to the  boatman. After the customary wearing of the lifeguards we set off on the leisurely boat ride. Since we were only six of us in the large boat and the tides beinf a little high the ride was quite bumpy but quite exciting and adventurous. On the way we were treated to an exhibition of swimming and acrobatics by a group of dolphins who were at their natural best unlike the trained ines in the dolphin shows you come across. We reached the isalnd which turned out to be at its natural best after the overnight rain. We were really thrilled to be there amidst nature at its best with plenty of birds and greenery which surrounded us from all sides. We took the steep gradient to climb up the hill pathway. After a goos half an hour walk we came upon a resort full of cabins in the best of conditions in such serene surroundings. They are also building a swimming pool here in addition to the club house restaurant, and spa they already have here. For those interested the property is owned by http://cintacorislandresort.com/. You can book online and enjoy your stay away from the hustle and bustle of city life on an island.

In  the afternoon after our return from the island visit which we finished around 1.00 pm we called up our auto chauffeur we explored the nearby city and discovered an authentic Udupi Restaurant serving dishes to our taste, This was also about one fourth the price of food at the resort so it easily covered the  to and fro auto cost keeping our chauffeur happy.

With happiness all around we dis the now customary visit to the Udupi restaurant for the night dinner after we visited the nearby Rabindranath Tagore Beach.

Day 3

We started the day with the morning visit to the Udupi restaurant for breakfast. I soaked myself in the pool at the resort and then we had our bath and ready gain to go over for our lunch. After return we decided to have an afternoon nap and a movie on the television. In the evening we visited  the Devbaugh beach to observe the sunset and retired early for a good noghts rest.

Day 4.

We checked out early to the  railway station and had our breakfast on the way to catch the 10 am train to Udupi, a journey of three hours for the second leg of our holiday. We had planned to spend a couple of days at the farm house of a friend who had returned from the  US and bought and settled down for his retired life there.
