Alzheimers and Dementia



The other day I was going through the usual messages received in the Whatsapp groups in which I am part of.

We have a Whatsapp group of old people my age (In fact the SSC Batch of students who were together in year 1961 in the Tenth Standard). I came across a post in which some one was talking about Alzheimers disease and Dementia which old persons suffer from and their problems in life.

My heart goes out for these Senior Citizens who in their prime have looked after their families, been successful in life but today helpless because of this condition,. Dementia patients are abandoned by their own relatives.  

Two of my my closest friends (married couple) Mrs. Loretta Pinto and Mr Gerald Pinto who are in Mangaluru have done a yeomen service to these affected persons by starting a Trust "Susheg Charitable Trust" . They have dedicated their life to the cause by donating land to build a 25 bed hospital for such patients where treatment is "Free of Cost" 

If you visit their Facebook Page "Susheg Charitable Trust" you will learn more about the trust and their various activities. Donations to their trust is 100% Exempt from Income Tax under Section 80-G.


I have today This April 2, 2017 am made the following pledge.

I will set aside Rs 15/- per day every day to the cause of Dementia Patients and at the end of every month donate the money kept aside(Rs 450/- per month) To the Susheg Charitable Trust.

I plead with every one of you who reads this to donate whatever you can either in lump sum or per day small amount like what I have done or some amount per month towards this noble cause.

Masi (Eleventh Month) The Festivals in Masi Masi Makam or Masi Magam is an important festival in the Tamil speaking world. The festival falls in the Tamil Month of Masi (February – March). In 2018, Masi Makam is on March 1. This year it is the Mahamaham. Maham or Makam is one among the twenty seven stars in the astrological system.
